Greetings from the First Lady and Happy Birthday to ME!!!

Hello Dearest Family and Friends!

I am writing this to you at the end of a wonderful first birthday day in Namibia! For those of you who have already sent me birthday wishes that I haven't responded to yet, Thank You very much!!! Let me share a bit about my wonderful day!

I awoke to my new roommate Sarah making me French toast and bacon for breakfast! It was a delicious and delightful way to start of the day! After breakfast we watched a movie, got cleaned up, then had a lunch of pasta with tomato sauce. Then we went and spent several hours sitting with my friends from Zimbabwe, Sehliselo and Auntie, just chatting. It is always special and fun to spend time with these two wonderful ladies, so I really enjoyed it! Then at 5:30 we made our way to Rob & Alisa's for a special time with the family. I got homemade birthday cards from all of the kids, nice gifts from everybody, and THE BEST chocolate cake known to man! Crazy chocolate cake with a peanut butter frosting! Absolutely amazing!!!! After that we had a girls night out at the Kavango lodge, which is my favorite place to eat here in Rundu. It was a good night with friends and the food was wonderful!

And it that wasn't enough, I got to meet the First Lady of Namibia, Mrs. Penehupifo Pohamba! There was a table set up for 15 people next to us. It was around 8:30 that the guests for that table showed up. It took us a while (and Minnie asking) to figure out that it was the First Lady and her entourage! After our meal Minnie (the social butterfly of us all) approached the security guard to find out if we could greet her. They said yes, so we did! She greeted each of us and shook our hands, and I got a special birthday wish from her! How fabulous is that! She also thanked us (all but Imelda were volunteers) for the work we are doing here in Namibia. She was very gracious and very lovely! I felt bad that we were interrupting her meal, but after Minnie started talking to her, it would have been incredibly rude for the rest of us to have not gone to say hello! So though we were all a bit embarrassed by her actions, I am glad that I have a fun story to tell about my first birthday in Namibia!

I hope this finds you all doing well! Love you and miss you bunches!

p.s. Sarah arrived safely with all of her luggage and all of her goodies, so we are very thankful for that! She is really nice and I think that we will get along great while she is here. She will be working with me in the Pediatric Ward for her 6 months here. And, her first day is tomorrow! Hopefully it will go well! I feel the pressure to get her settled in over the next two weeks since I will be leaving her for almost 3 while I am in Kenya!

p.p.s. My dad's surgery went ok, but when pulling the molars they gave him a hairline fracture of the jaw! Thankfully he is doing well, but it still causes him a bit of discomfort. Please pray for his continued healing!
